More getting-into-character poetry. This one is Anazor Revek, a side character in my sci-fi novel who is an empath and a counselor.

It’s a breath
Just breathing in
Then I feel it all

When you walk by
I feel your sorrow, your hopes, and your dreams
Don’t say you’re all alone
I’m here, and I feel you deeply

All I want is to know who I am
I’m on a search for someone I can’t find

All too often I lose myself in others
And all that’s left is a ghost of myself

For all my life I’ve walked in the shadows
Watched in the margins, as others took center stage

Be a man, they say
Be a man and stand up
I shouldn’t feel things the way I do
My tears—I shouldn’t shed them
